Face and its expressions often give the first impression, send messages related to emotions, health, vitality and age . While the face and its features  of the people are changing, they look more tired, angry, sad, or older than they feel. 

Face is composed of layers of skin, muscles and fat which are placed above the facial bones. Like an elastic band that was stretched over the normal limits, so the tissues of the face tend to sag over time, losing their elasticity and  its youthful position. Facial ageing occurs in response to damage caused by sun and by gravity, over time.  As a result, skin loses  its elasticity and structure becoming lax .  In addition, fat deposits, which normally give full and rounded facial appearance, migrate downwards , creating bare areas. In combination, these changes create deep wrinkles, dark circles and  sag skin  in the middle and lower portion of the face .  Changes begin to appear on the eyebrows or on forehead creating wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the forehead.

A face-lift surgery takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the surgery (even more if are performed injections with fat on the face, ditches or cheekbones).The surgery will be performed under general anesthesia, while you are asleep.
There are several techniques and surgeon will explain what best fits in your situation.

The aim of face lift surgery is to lift the middle portion of the face, to reposition it above bottom, through the application of special  absorbable wires or absorbable implants with small teeth, which help maintain the cheeks in their new position. On this occasion, other intervention can be performed to the lower eyelids, injection with hyaluronic acid or fat in the cheeks and naso-genian ditches.

Classic facelift

All the changes who affect lower third of the face are the most obvious: deepening grooves in the cheeks and around the mouth, excess skin hanging from the cheek, jaw line and neck.  Often performed to people over 45 years, lower facial lift can help reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and skin left on the jaw and neck, by giving an youthful firmness.

If the incision is performed just around the ear is called a  minilifting.  If it extends toward the top of the head and neck- the lift is complete .Then the skin is lifted and / or superficial muscles of Mimicry - SMAS is fixed with special  absorbable wires, or smaller absorbable  implants with teeth, and excess skin is removed. .
If a neck lift is  also performed, is necessary a small incision on the underside of the chin .  Skin and muscles are tensioned and the excess fat is carved.
The procedure takes 2-3 hours depending on the difficulty level and is performed under general anesthesia.

Frontal face lift

 In time, due to frontal muscle contractions - corrugator and procerus, lines and wrinkles in the forehead region are becoming increasingly obvious, and eyebrows seem to be descended. A facelift reduces or eliminates forehead wrinkles, and may raise eyebrows, giving a more youthful  appearance to the upper portion of the face, achieving results that will make you look up to ten years younger.

Although there are several techniques, the most effective and common involves making an incision that lies between the two ears across the  crown region of the head.  The surgery involves removal of the excess skin, and the interruption of the activity and functions of the muscles. Then the tissues are fixed in their new position, with special  absorbable wires or absorbable implants with small teeth.
The procedure takes 1-2 hours depending on the difficulty level and is performed under general anesthesia.

Temporal lift

Is performed to lift the external part of the eyebrows. Incisions are made in the area covered with hair of the head above the ears.  The young people do not need to remove the skin (not being excessive), just rearranging the tissues.  It last 1 hour and is performed while you are asleep.

There are old techniques, in which skin above the eyebrows is removed in order to lift them.  I see no reason for which we should make scars on the face or above the eyebrows (visible),  when you can hide them with the hair!

Facial Implants

It is performed to reduce the volume of certain area of the face. The surgery is performed  specially to the cheeks and chin. Are made of silicone which is sometimes reshapable.
The interventions are performed under local anesthesia, takes about 1 hour and the principle is to create a pocket in the area of interest over a bony area, where to put the implant.
The result is to enlarge the relief, and to fill the tissues from the area.

Endoscopic lift

At one point, endoscopic method  was the most agreed, in the hope that healing will be faster because of smaller incisions . But even if there are small incisions, skin lifting and / or muscle is all in the same area!  Meaning is the same postoperative trauma and if incisions are with  2-3 cm shorter  that does not mean the healing is faster! 
 It was proven that is not a  beneficial method but limited only to cases which  do not have excess skin to be removed.  Even in these cases surgery can be done without the endoscope !  Endoscope remains a very useful tool in general surgery ,in cases when only with three small incisions, the physician can enter into the target area and solve the problem without cutting all the abdomen, and unnecessarily exposing many organs and tissues.

Postoperative

Eventually applies bandages or some sort of face mask, with the role of compression to facilitate healing, and provides comfort and support as you heal.  Pain is minimal or absent and disappear with the usual painkillers  As with any surgery, you will experience discomfort, swelling and bruising around the face and eyes.  If drainage tubes were applied, it will be removed the day after surgery.  Stitches are removed about seven days.  Although you will be feeling well enough to resume work in about a week, you should avoid intense activity for two or three weeks after surgery  in order to allow the body to heal.

You shall remain with permanent scars but well hidden under the hair.

You will notice some results immediately after the surgery. But the results will become obvious in 2 or three weeks. The final results depend on the rate of the healing of every patient.

Facial lift do not apply when changing the colour or texture of the skin, which can be solved only with special treatments. A facial lift can not interrupt the ageing process but can slow it, reducing the sag look of the face and neck, giving an youthful appearance in the following years.
